University College is pleased to present Episode 74! This week, we discuss LeBron James and his new educational endeavor. Mike tosses a little hate at James (but makes sure we know its not at the school because education rocks!). We also dissect Donald Trump's criticism at James and CNN's Don Lemon. Finally, we discuss our "Who Gotta Go?" for Power, Season 5 Episode 6. Check us out and let us know your feedback! Find us on Instagram at @UCollege and @iOpine11.

What an amazing couple of days! Immigration is still a major news topic, Maxine Waters told a certain segment of America "they better shoot straight" and LeBron is headed to Tinsel Town. All of that is nothing compared to the return of Power! We look at all this and more in this week's University College Podcast.

Think of this entire episode as a "from the archives," "cutting room floor-esque" recording. We talk about Trump and his inability to weather the Stormy, we discuss men who blame their wives for $30,000 doors, and wrinkles in time.

University College is back with Episode 51! This week, we discuss Trump and his continued response to Puerto Rico. We also discuss Jemele Hill's suspension from ESPN. Has her twitter fingers gotten her into trouble, or is she standing up for the culture? We tackle all of this and much more! We hope you'll join us.

This week, the fellas FINALLY got to record an episode in the same studio! Join us as we compare and contrast Trump's presidential performance in Puerto Rico versus Las Vegas. Did he live up to the role of Consoler-in-Chief, or did he shoot an airball?

We also discuss Cam Newton's sexist comments directed at a woman reporter, and if his comments are part of a larger problem with how men view women in the work place.

Lastly, we talk about the latest episode of Black-ish--one of the best shows on television today. Is Black-ish coming for the number one spot currently occupied by 'The Cosby Show' as the most important sitcom for African Americans?

Welcome to University College - Episode 47! This week, we had FSU alum and business owner James Coleman on the show to kick around thoughts on Trump v. Korea, the most un-gangsta version of 'Knuck If You Buck', as well as thoughts on Kapernick and the continued black balling of the former QB. James also joins in to discuss "Power" (Episode 7).

Note: We will take a break for a few weeks to handle some items before coming back in October.

In this edition of University College, we discuss Trump v. Sessions, the complete disarray of this White House administration, and a brief look at the latest healthcare votes.

We also take a look at Kyrie Irving's shocking (or not so shocking) proclamation that he wants out of Cleveland--and more importantly that he does not want to play second fiddle to LeBron James any longer. What does this mean for him moving forward, and does this reflect poorly on King James.

Finally, we discuss "Power". GHOST. IS. OUT! How will he rebuild his empire? What does this mean for him and Tasha, or him and Angie?

Its a great discussion, and we hope you join us.

Jul 21, 2017

Welcome to Episode 44 of University College Podcast! This week, special guest Jacqueline Currie joins the show to discuss her career as a licensed professional counselor and the impact that therapy can have for clients. After our discussion about her role in helping to improve the lives of others, she kicked it with us to discuss the smoke and mirrors of the Trump presidency, Lavar Ball's unexpected win, the importance of diversity in comic books and graphic novels, and of course the second-best show of TV--Power!

We hope you all enjoy and thanks for the support!

Welcome to Episode 41 of the U.C! Today we celebrate June 27th (even though Mike doesn’t know what that is), the return of “Power” and much more. Is Trump on a winning streak right now? Is it really retirement if no one hires you, or are you just out of work? Finally, other than Holly, I think we can all agree that Angela is the worst character ever on Power, right? The fellas all provide their individual “Who’s Gotta Go” lists and we do our consensus “Power” power rankings.

Man hold up, man its going diiiiiiine.

We’d like to welcome all of our listeners to Episode 38 of University College. This week we provide updates on recent “high profile” cases involving police offer-involved shootings of African Americans in Tulsa, Miami, and Cleveland. Should a jury be allowed to hear about a victim’s past issues, or should the jury only be allowed to consider what the officer knew at the time of the incident?

Also, is America fake caring about Eldrick “Tiger” Woods, or is this is serious as the media is making it sound?

Finally, can LeBron and Kyrie compete with the Warrior’s and Durant’s estranged wave brush?

We discuss all of this and more! If you listen to the episode and enjoy it, share the content.

Episode 35 of University College is now available! This episode marks our first “Listener Mailbag”. This week, Curtiss, Mike and I took some of your questions and discussed them during a live recording.

Questions:

  1. Does Black privilege exist?
  2. What is one thing you wish someone told you about raising children that you had no idea about?
  3. Why do you all think there is a stigma attached to mental health in our community?
  4. Are men more sensitive than women?
  5. What do your Caucasian or Republican (conservative) friends think about your podcast, or the things you’ve said?
  6. Where do you guys go for “unbiased” news? How do you educate yourselves on both sides of political issues?

We’d like to thank the listeners who submitted questions and congrats to the listeners who had a question that was picked!

Welcome back to the U.C.! As we near the end of Donnie J’s first 100 days, we pause to look back on his wins, losses, and everything in between. Also, did the Black community over react to the Shea Moisture ad campaign or was there actual reason for concern. And Beyhive members continue to rejoice as Beyoncé announces a new scholarship program aimed at helping our youth continue to reach great heights! We appreciate our listeners and thank you for your continued support.

Do us a favor, share your favorite episode and tag one (or all) of us in your post!

In this #UCSoundbyte, Curtiss, Mike and I review the @HBO Original Film The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. Does this movie (based on the book of the same name), starring Oprah Winfrey, properly deliver the right dosage of information about Henrietta Lacks to properly tell her amazing story, or does the treatment of this movie fall short? Where is the line between medicine and ethics with regards to patients? How has the standard of care changed in medicine over time? Finally, does the Lacks family deserve compensation for the countless advancements in medicine that have resulted because of their mother’s HeLa cells? We briefly tackle all of this in this very special podcast episode.

University College, Episode 32 is now live! This week, we sit down with ESPN’s Darren M. Haynes to discuss his career in sports journalism, his beliefs on giving back to his community, and his self-described most important role—being a father.

If you know a young person interested in broadcast journalism, give them the link to the show and have them listen to the discussion with Darren. There is a lot of great information that he provides on his mentors and advice he's been given over the years.

Curtiss, Michael, and I also discuss the latest with President Trump, Congress signing legislation that may decrease your internet privacy, and whether Bill O’Reilly was out of line for his comments about Rep. Maxine Waters.

This week, we are pleased to welcome Henry Williams (aka King Henry) to the show! Henry discusses his passion for music, his musical influences and the intersection between social issues and hip hop. What was the album that changed his life? What does being a music producer mean? We answer all of these questions and much more.

We also breakdown the "repeal and replace" debate for the Affordable Care Act, and discuss the ramifications for Trump if it doesn't pass. Did the Comey hearings accomplish anything?

Also, are Sage Steele's recent comments indicative of self hate, or does she simply think that Blacks are the most racist people she has dealt with? Is there a difference between her comments and the past comments Bill Cosby has made?

Thank you for listening, and we hope you enjoy!

In Episode 12, we are joined by Breonna Brownlee (@BreWrites) for an insightful discussion about culture vultures, where to find them, and who some of the biggest culprits are today.
